Photo Story: Autumn Hideaway

"I moved on and found this calm stream with the sunlight bathing the water, framed by trees on either side that still contain some flashes of green leaves."

There's a place that's very popular in the Coventry and Warwickshire region and that's Coombe Abbey. It's a very exclusive hotel where I love to go around this time of year for the Christmas lunch or afternoon tea with Christmas carols. But it's only during this last year that I first came to visit the country park surrounding the hotel.

For those of you who know Clingandael in The Hague, it's actually very much like that. Trees, paths, streams and wildlife.

Seeing that the light was bright on a weekend in November, I decided it could be a chance to capture some autumn colours. So I ventured the short distance from home to this little corner of nature outside the city.

It's not very easy to photograph woodland scenes well, not least because often it can be hard to find a focal point in the scene. Sometimes a scene can look like it will be great but the final picture doesn't capture its glory. I had the feeling I'd be lucky to get a shot I was really happy with.

One of the charms of this park is that there are some interesting areas with streams and ponds and, despite people strolling around, you can still find secluded areas and shots.

The sun meant that the temperature was warm enough that day for me to leave my gloves off and the sunlight was gleaming through the trees. After trying to capture some scenes with a swan family (that wasn't entirely successful), I moved on and found this calm stream with the sunlight bathing the water, framed by trees on either side that still contain some flashes of green leaves.

Let's face it, we all need more nature and tranquility these days and I'm happy that my photo captured the atmosphere in the way I wanted it to: calm, warm, peaceful and a welcome escape from technology and the horrors of the news stories we are inundated with on a daily basis.

The stream flows on into the distance. I felt like I could sit alongside it and just feel the warm sunlight for a while, with not a care in the world.

It will be nice to revisit this location again in the springtime and capture some springtime scenes and atmosphere 😊

This pic, as always, will be in my gallery/store very soon!
