Den Haag: City, Culture, Life - My Street Photography Collection

Writer's picture: Claire LawrenceClaire Lawrence
The collection is now online on the website - look out for photo stories about the collection coming soon!

Over the spring to autumn months last year, I dedicated a fair few hours to wandering around The Hague in my quest to capture interesting street photos of the city - the place that I so happily called home for almost 7 years.

I'm gradually adding my entire collection to the website, and I want to tell you all about it here on my blog 😀. I am so happy that I entered twelve from the set as my final assignment for my street photography course and achieved distinction (you can read about it here).

Inspired by the course, and accompanied by my general interest and enjoyment in just wandering around the city and taking in the atmosphere, it seemed an ideal thing to do. One of my favourite pastimes was always just to sit with a coffee and watch the world go by, so why not capture it?

The bikes, narrow streets and quaint corners of the city centre are almost made for street photography. In the beginning, I found it hard to grasp the confidence to get in close to the subjects, but I quickly worked out how to be quicker at snapping moments as they passed by.

In the coming weeks and months, I'll share some of the stories of these images with you, so keep an eye out on my blog for these 😊. The wonderful thing about street photography is that the images tell many stories (and in fact, everyone has their own interpretation). But I will tell you what they mean to me and what inspired me in the moment.

You can see the collection on my website here. Please let me know what you think of it. I may in time also sell these images on the site, but am thinking of entering them into some competitions first - fingers crossed! 👍🏻😊
